Staffing Service Companies

Enterprising Staffing Services is a prime example of how LEAF operates. Manna, a CDC in Washington, DC was interested in starting a business in its historic Shaw District, a neighborhood where unemployment was much greater than in the rest of Washington, DC and surrounding communities.

ICA had been pursuing the start-up of a staffing service company in the DC area and was looking for an appropriate host. ICA and Manna partnered in developing this social purpose business. LEAF and the National Cooperative Bank Development Corporation provided a combination of debt and equity financing to start the business. LEAF has since made a second investment to support the company's continued growth.  ICA provides ongoing technical assistance and holds a seat on the board.

To date the company has placed more than  400 individuals in hospitality, office, healthcare and construction jobs that now pay an average of $10.18 per hour.
